We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Civil Estimator with a strong background in underground wet utilities and mass excavation projects. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in estimating the costs of mid to large-scale civil infrastructure projects, particularly those involving utility installation and earthwork. This role requires the ability to analyze project plans, collaborate with project managers, and deliver accurate cost estimates that align with the company’s budget and schedule goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze civil project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare detailed cost estimates for underground wet utilities and mass excavation.
- Prepare takeoffs and quantity surveys for civil infrastructure components, including but not limited to water, sewer, storm drainage, and earthwork.
- Develop accurate unit rates and pricing models, incorporating labor, material, equipment, and overhead costs.
- Collaboration and Coordination:
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather information and ensure accurate estimates.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to assess project scope and site conditions.
- Interface with vendors and subcontractors to obtain pricing for materials, equipment, and services.
- Bid Preparation and Submission:
- Prepare and submit formal bid proposals, ensuring that all project specifications, deadlines, and scope of work are met.
- Review contractual documents and project requirements to ensure compliance and identify potential risks or opportunities.
- Participate in bid reviews and post-bid evaluations to ensure cost-effective and competitive pricing.
- Identify and analyze project risks, including site conditions, environmental factors, and other variables that may impact cost or schedule.
- Provide recommendations on risk mitigation strategies, including scope adjustments or alternative approaches.
- Project Tracking and Reporting:
- Monitor ongoing project costs and provide support to the project team during construction.
- Track project changes, adjustments, and variations to ensure estimates remain aligned with actual costs.
- Prepare periodic cost reports and updates for management and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred not required).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in estimating for civil projects, specifically underground wet utilities (water, sewer, storm) and mass excavation.
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and industry standards, particularly for utility installation and earthwork.
- Proficient in estimating software (e.g., bid2win, HCSS, or equivalent).
- Excellent understanding of local codes, regulations, and permitting processes.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse teams and clients.
- Ability to read and interpret complex civil engineering drawings and specifications.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with project scheduling and cost control.
- Familiarity with building information modeling (BIM) or 3D modeling software.
- Certifications in construction estimating (e.g., AACE or ASPE) are a plus.
